- To explain the basics of the theory of evolution in simple, understandable terms.
- To show why controversy persists surrounding this subject.
- To demonstrate that arguments offered against evolution are faulty and alternatives to evolution find no support in the evidence.
- To define the scientific method and show how the theory of evolution is in accord with it, while creationism is the antithesis of science.
- To show that the arguments of creationists are rife with misrepresentation, unsupported assertions, and errors of logic and fact.
- To dispel the misinformation spread by creationists in an attempt to sow doubt about the plausibility of evolution.
- To prove that the theory of evolution remains sound and factually supported by overwhelming quantities of experiment, evidence and observation, and is currently the only plausible scientific explanation for the diversity of life on this planet.
- To combat the efforts of those who would pass their religion off as science and have it taught in public schools, in an attempt to breach the separation of church and state.
- To show that creationism is bad theology as well as bad science and should be rejected by all believers, while evolution in no way threatens open-minded religious faith.
- To explain why evolution is an essential component of modern science that should be taught in all schools and universities, while creationism is in opposition to the intellectual freedom and scientific understanding that are vital requirements for any democratic nation.
